Former President Donald Trump spoke out on Tuesday to tease a possible presidential run in 2024, saying that “people are going to be very, very happy” with what he decides to do.
“The answer is I’m absolutely enthused. I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time,” Trump told conservative media personality Candace Owens. “As you know, it’s very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”
“As you know, it’s very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement,” he added, according to The Hill. “You know for campaign finance reasons, you really can’t do it too early because it becomes a whole different thing.”
If Trump were to formally announce a 2024 run now, it would open him up to required financial disclosure forms and election laws that would dictate how he can raise and spend money until the race.
“Otherwise I think I’d give you an answer that you’d be very happy with. So we’re looking at that very, very seriously,” Trump told Owens. “All I’d say is: stay tuned.”
“I am looking at it very seriously, beyond seriously,” he added. “From a legal standpoint, I don’t want to really talk about it yet.”
When Owens joked that she would be a good running mate on his potential 2024 ticket, Trump laughed as he said, “What a good choice that would be. That would be fantastic. You would be fantastic.”
Trump’s full interview with Owens is set to air tonight on Daily Wire.
Last month, Trump said in another interview that he is “beyond seriously” considering running for president in 2024.
“First of all, it’s a long time,” Trump said last month. “The odds, the odds. What are the odds? Look, I’ve got tremendous numbers. Nobody has ever gotten the numbers I’ve got. No sitting president has come even close.”
“There is more popularity now than there was the day before the election because they see how bad things are at the border,” he continued. “They see what is going on. They see their guns are going to be gone — their Second Amendment. Their taxes are going up. Regulations are going through the roof. Jobs are going to go up.”
