Belt crushes grand slam, Posey homers in SF Giants’ biggest inning since 2008

For as good as the Giants’ offense was last year, one of the lineup’s biggest weaknesses was producing runs in doubleheader games.

In their first doubleheader matchup of the 2021 season, the Giants wasted little time giving their pitching staff a little breathing room.

With help from a Brandon Belt grand slam and a Buster Posey home run, the Giants scored 10 first-inning runs at Coors Field on Tuesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Rockies.

The 10 runs the Giants scored in the top of the first inning marked their most in a single frame since scoring 10 in the bottom of the fourth inning at Oracle Park on September 7, 2008 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Giants won that game 11-6 as the color commentator for Tuesday’s game, Randy Winn, reached twice in the fourth inning that day including to lead off the inning.
