‘The Powerpuff Girls’: Twitter Is Dragging the Costumes for the Live-Action Series; ‘Party City’

The first look at The Powerpuff Girls live-action is here and people are already weighing in. A photo showing off Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup in their signature blue, pink, and green is circulating the Internet and, thus far, people are less than impressed with the costumes. In fact, many people on Twitter are declaring that the clothing looks impossibly cheap and DIY costumes look better.

The Powerpuff Girls originally aired from 1998-2005 on Cartoon Network. The original series followed three young girls who, thanks to a chemical, had superpower capabilities that they used to fight crime. The live-action series, which will air on the CW, finds Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup in the 20s, upset that they gave up their childhood to fight crime. The series will seek to explore if they will be able to put their personal differences aside to reunite to help save the world.

The CW has found their main cast for ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ live-action series

Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault, have been cast in The Powerpuff Girls live-action series to portray Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup respectively. On April 7, 2021, a photo of the three circulated while they were filming. While the actors seem to be enjoying themselves, people couldn’t help but notice that their costumes looked fairly uninspired and low budget. Naturally, people on Twitter quickly began to weigh in.

“The CW literally put the cast in The Powerpuff Girls costumes that Party City sell every single Halloween!” one person tweeted out. “The Powerpuff Girls costume designer really went how can I use every basic college girl Halloween costume as my inspiration,” another person penned.

Twitter is less than impressed with the characters’ costumes

“Why does the costume design in the new Powerpuff Girls live-action thing look absolutely atrocious???” another person questioned. “It looks like fu*king Spirit Halloween? They’re 20 in their old style? They’re not like… HINTING at old styles? What the fu*k?”
