Report: Fry’s Electronics to close all remaining stores
SAN JOSE — Sunnyvale-based Fry’s Electronics is calling it quits, according to a news report.
KRON4 on Tuesday night said it confirmed the retailer was shuttering all its stores nationwide. The retailer is expected to post closure information on its website early Wednesday.
A Fry’s Electronics spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the report.
The retailer was founded in 1985 by brothers John, Randy and Dave Fry and Kathy Kolder as a one-stop shop for the “hi-tech professional,” according to its website.
“Fry’s continues to keep hi-tech professionals supplied with products representing the latest technological trends and advances in the personal computer marketplace,” the website states.
Customers across the country, however, have been greeted with shelves empty of merchandise for more than a year now. In response to social media posts by concerned shoppers, the retailer explained it was transitioning to a consignment model.
In November, Fry’s Electronics closed its decades-old store in Campbell, but said it would continue to serve customers at its San Jose, Sunnyvale and Fremont locations.

According to its website, the retailer has 10 uniquely themed stores in California, eight in Texas, two in Arizona and one each in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. The stores range in size from 50,000 to 180,000 square feet.
