For years, former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and fans pressured ABC and The Bachelor franchise to be more diverse. In the midst of public pressure, Matt James, who was supposed to appear on Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette, was cast as the lead of the next season of The Bachelor.

In a joint statement, the executive producers of The Bachelor acknowledged the diversity issues within the franchise, writing:

“We are excited to move forward with both Matt James as the new Bachelor and Clare Crawley as our next Bachelorette. We acknowledge our responsibility for the lack of representation of people of color on our franchise and pledge to make significant changes to address this issue moving forward. We are taking positive steps to expand diversity in our cast, in our staff, and most importantly, in the relationships that we show on television. We can and will do better to reflect the world around us and show all of its beautiful love stories.”

Lead with love. Live with purpose. This is not for pity, and this should never stop you from living your life each and every day. These are things myself & family have dealt with our entire lives. I learned at a young age that when you lead with love and have purpose in your heart ignorance and hatred become irrelevant because you are above it all. We can’t control the opinions of others, but we can control how we allow those opinions to affect us. This is beyond simply race. It’s human to human respect for everybody. Stay True. Stay You.
