Metallica announced Thursday (Oct. 10) that it will headline five rock festivals in 2020.
And, thankfully for local fans, one of them will be the Aftershock festival, which takes place Oct. 9-11 at Discovery Park in Sacramento.
The metal act, which ranks as the top-selling Bay Area band of all time, also performs at Epicenter in Charlotte, North Carolina, May 1-3; Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, May 8-10; Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, May 15-17; Lounder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky, Sept. 18-20.
All five of these festivals are produced by Danny Wimmer Presents.
The band will perform two sets at each of the five festival, for a total of 10 sets. These will reportedly be the only shows that Metallica plays in North America in 2020.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9 a.m. Oct. 14, www.metallicaxx.com.
The band last performed in Northern California in early September, combining forces with the San Francisco Symphony for the opening of the Golden State Warriors’ new Chase Center in San Francisco.

“And I think that is the @Metallica spirit — of continuing this sort of quest forward rather than being tied down to the past.” We go behind the scenes as Metallica and @SFSymphony prep for #sandm2 concerts at @ChaseCenter @LiveNationSF @apeconcerts https://t.co/yX8mh0bmdw
