Pumpkin lattes: Dunkin’ Donuts will beat Starbucks’ timing this year

Fall comes earlier every year.

It’s not even mid-August and already school has started. The NFL’s preseason is well under way.

And the annual race to market with pumpkin-spiced coffees is heating up — no matter how sweltering the weather may be across the United States.

This year, Dunkin’ Donuts is expected to beat Starbucks by several days with a Wednesday, Aug. 21, roll-out of its autumnal line. Two new offerings — Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Signature Lattes and Apple Cider Donuts — will join Dunkin’s menu of pumpkin-flavored coffee, doughnuts, muffins and Munchkins doughnut holes.

Dunkin’s lattes and coffee drinks are all available iced, and the pumpkin coffee also comes in a cold brew version.

As for Starbucks, the company has not announced release dates yet for its Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but Business Insider has reported that Aug. 27 is likely.

The earliest-ever drop date in the PSL’s 16-year history was in 2014 when Starbucks selected Aug. 26 to unleash the pumpkin-mania.
