The Bay Area’s last Chow restaurant closes

The last of the Bay Area’s popular Chow restaurants — the Lafayette one — is gone.

But the Lafayette Restaurant Group has come to the rescue, employees said Wednesday, buying the La Fiesta Square restaurant and the menu and keeping on the local management team and staff.

The new name, as of this week, is Tutu’s Food & Drink. And all of the customer favorites are still offered, including the all-day brunch lineup of scrambles and the lunch and dinner salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes.

“They value the services we provide,” one employee said happily of the new ownership.

This Chow at La Fiesta Square was part of Tony Gulisano’s San Francisco-born Chow group, known for serving family-friendly, seasonal fare at reasonable prices. Park Chow in San Francisco, which had been in business in the inner Sunset for 20 years, closed in 2018, followed by the Danville location, the Oakland one, and, this year, the original Chow on Chestnut Street in San Francisco.
