Sam Smith Once Considered A ‘Sex Change,’ Underwent Lipo At 12!

Sam Smith Comes Out As Gender-Queer And Non-Binary

Sam Smith came out as gender-queer and non-binary, claiming he once considered a sex change and even underwent lipo at 12!

During an interview with Jameela Jamil on I Weigh Interviews, a new Instagram series, Smith, 26, opened up about his lifelong struggles with weight and gender.

After coming out as gay when he was 10, and having liposuction at 12 to remove breasts that developed from excess levels of estrogen, his struggles with issues of gender surfaced, but as of recently he has tried to come to terms with his reality.

“I’ve always been very free in terms of thinking about sexuality,” he said. “I’ve tried to change that into my thoughts on gender.”

Consequently, he embraced his identity as gender-queer and non-binary.

What does that mean exactly? “You do not identify in a gender,” Smith told Jamil.

“You are a mixture of all these different things. You are your own special creation. That is how I take it. I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between — somewhat on the spectrum.”

In reference to this “spectrum,” Smith said he knows men who are straight but not “fully straight,” and on numerous occasions throughout the interview, admitted that he often moves and feels feminine in his sex life.

He’s even had thoughts of transitioning.

“I’ve sometimes sat there and questioned, do I want a sex change?” he said. “It’s something I still think about, but I don’t think it is (something I want).”

When he wasn’t discussing gender identities, Smith shared his struggles with weight and body image. He admitted that his signature suits were an attempt to conceal issues with his weight. He shared that his attempts to obtain muscles and a fit body conflicted with the parts of him that felt feminine.

“I put on weight in places that women put on weight, and that springboards everything,” Smith said. “That’s me looking at myself like…maybe I’m not a man, maybe I’m not a woman, and maybe that’s okay.”

Overall, after starting therapy last year, Smith decided to open up so he could be a voice for gender-queer individuals as well as those with body issues.

This is not Smith’s first time discussing his battles with weight and gender.

As Radar reported, he revealed he was gender fluid in a 2017 interview with The Times UK.
