Tim Tebow puts ‘Tebowing’ to good use with proposal to 2017 Miss Universe

Tim Tebow put on his signature move, and it earned him a fiancée.

The former NFL quarterback got down on one knee Wednesday, and by the time he rose he was engaged to 2017 Miss Universe and former Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. (Let’s all hope she feels the need to be thrice hyphenated. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters-Tebow?)

Tebow commemorated the happy occasion at his family’s farm outside of Jacksonville, Fla. with an Instagram post.

“@demileighnp Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world. You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” he wrote in his caption.

Tebow, 31, played three seasons in the NFL from 2010-12, but he was known more for taking a knee and praying, or “Tebowing” as it became known, than he was for his on-field accomplishments.

This, of course, was before former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made on-the-field kneeling such a controversial move.

According to People, Tebow secretly flew in Nel-Peters’ family and close friends from South Africa to witness the engagement. They, along with Tebow’s family, watched from the distance as Tebow Tebowed, showed her a 7.25-carat solitaire engagement ring and popped the question.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” Tebow told People. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

The proposal to 23-year-old Nel-Peters occurred next to a small lake where Tebow had installed an arbor and a bench that was engraved with the date the couple first met.
