Harlem Globetrotters whistle back to the Bay Area

What, you think the Warriors are the only ones around who can sink three-pointers with seconds on the clock?

Meet the Harlem Globetrotters, the team that introduced smooth moves to the game of basketball decades ago.

When you hear the whistling of “Sweet Georgia Brown,” it can mean only one thing: The men and women who make up today’s Globetrotters are in the Bay Area for their annual winter stand. Now playing on the team is former Stanford star Lili Thompson.

They’ll be at Oakland’s Oracle Arena at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and then again at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. San Jose’s SAP Center gets the theatrics at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, and noon on Monday, Jan. 21, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Between those Bay Area stops, the Globetrotters will appear at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center and at Santa Rosa Junior College.

By the way, the Globetrotters are already perfecting the four-pointer, scoring shots from 6 feet beyond the NBA’s three-point line.
