Vancouver Make It Craft Fair

When: Dec. 13-17

Where: PNE Forum (2901 East Hastings St.)

Tickets and info: $8 at the door, kids 12 and under are free; makeitshow.ca/vancouver/

Jenna Herbut has built her business from the phrase ‘make it happen.’

So, it seems only logical that the Vancouver-based entrepreneur and creator of the Make It Show craft fair would have incorporated the phrase into the title of her new book, Make It Happen: The Creative Entrepreneur’s Guide to Transforming Your Dreams into Reality (Raincoast Books, $19.95). The new read is her how-to guide for turning one’s small ideas into big opportunities.

Herbut took a break from her busy craft fair schedule and book promotion to chat with Postmedia News about the upcoming Vancouver Make It event, the lessons she hopes people take away from her new book — and what’s next. Q. For those who aren’t familiar, what is the Make It Craft event all about?

A. Make It is a large-scale craft fair that happens twice a year in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. Artists and makers — who are known as makies — travel from all over the country to participate in the show. The vibe at Make It is fun, upbeat and inspiring. Customers can expect to find anything from clothing, jewelry, art, food items, pottery, body care and pretty much anything else.

It’s the perfect spot to buy holiday gifts because you know you’re getting something truly special and unique. Every product at Make It is made by hand in Canada with lots of love and attention to detail. We also have food trucks and a beer garden, so come hungry and thirsty.

Q. What’s new for the upcoming event?

A. 2018 marks our 10th anniversary, and to celebrate we will be opening this year’s Vancouver show on Dec. 12 for a Sip & Shop event where customers can enjoy an adult beverage while they enjoy the festive atmosphere. We also have an incubator section for brand new makies to launch their line to the public.

Q. In addition to being an entrepreneur and business woman, you’re also now an author.
