Montel Williams is lucky to be alive.
Months after his terrifying hospitalization, the veteran talk show host and TV star is opening up about his near-death experience.
“I had what they call a hemorrhagic stroke,” Williams, 62, told The Blast in a recent interview.
He said that on May 30, he was simply working out at his building gym when he suddenly heard a “loud pop” on his left side.

“I looked up and everything turned into kaleidoscope,” Williams said. “I knew something was majorly wrong, so I forced myself to get to my room on the 14th floor and called my wife. I told her that I may be having a stroke, so please call 911. She did the rest.”
The actor’s wife, Tara Fowler, immediately called 911, and soon after, a stroke emergency crew rushed to their home. They treated Williams on the side walk and determined exactly what kind of stroke he had.
According to the National Stroke Association, 15 percent of strokes are considered hemorrhagic, but those few are responsible for about 40 percent of all stroke deaths.
Williams said he “almost died” on the sidewalk, and if it hadn’t been for his wife and the emergency crew, he would not be breathing.

“I’m lucky to be alive,” he said.
“I give all the credit to my wife,” he added. “She laid on the bed with me for all 21 days, sleeping at the hospital and staying there 18 hours a day.”
“The only thing I remember for the first five days of the ICU is her saying. ‘I love you.’”
As of now, Montel Williams is following a healthy diet and taking a small dose of medication. He is certainly on his way to recovery, and feels that his stroke was just a wakeup call “to go 100 percent, instead of the 300 percent I was working at.”
