FREMONT — The weather is heating up, and music will soon be in the air as free summer concert series are getting underway in Fremont.
The city of Fremont’s Central Park Summer Concert Series begins Thursday, and will run weekly through Aug. 16.
All of the concerts are held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at the outdoor Central Park Performance Pavilion against the backdrop of Lake Elizabeth. The pavilion is located next to 40204 Paseo Padre Parkway.
Parking lots near the concert venue fill up by 5 p.m., according to the city website, so plan to arrive early to grab a spot.
The first act kicking off the series will be Majestic Journey, a Journey tribute band. Through the series there will be acts performing the music of Elton John, tunes from the 1970s and ’80s, as well as Latin funk and rhythm and blues.
The Pacific Commons Shopping Center also will host a series of four concerts, taking place 7 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, beginning July 21 and running through Aug. 11.
All the performances will be held at The Block at the shopping center, near Dick’s Sporting Goods at 43440 Boscell Road. There also will be face painters and balloon twisters at each performance, according to organizers.
The first show on July 21 will feature the Dr. D Band, performing funk, rhythm and blues, and rock.
