Whether or not a star as rarified as Nicole Kidman pays any attention to something as common as social media, she apparently got the message that Twitter has feverishly wondered why she failed to mention her two older children with Tom Cruise when she accepted acting honors at the Emmys in September and at the Golden Globes Sunday night.

Kidman has been the awards-season darling for her performance as a laywer-turned-abused-wife-and-mom in the acclaimed HBO limited series “Big Little Lies.” But the actress has also caused a stir when she’s failed to include Connor and Isabella Cruise in the family members she has chosen to thank.

For example, at the Emmys, Kidman made a point of reminding the crowd that she’s not just a busy, successful actress but also a wife and mother.

However, in emphasizing her domestic side, she made it sound like she only has two young daughters with husband Keith Urban: Sunday Rose, 8, and Faith Margaret, 6. She, of course, also has Connor and Isabella, who are in their 20s and whom she adopted with Cruise, her first husband.

Kidman dedicated her Emmys speech just to Sunday and Faith, saying “This is yours. I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, ‘Every time my mommy didn’t put me to bed, it’s because of this. I got something!’”

Then at the Golden Globes Sunday night, Kidman again referred to family members in her life who are important to her. In addition to Urban and Sunday and Margaret, she mentioned her mother.

But again, Connor and Isabella were left off her thank you list, setting off anther frenzy on social media. Among those noticing the oversight was Huffington Post writer Yashar Ali:

Nicole Kidman did not thank her daughter/son she adopted with Tom Cruise in her speech. She didn’t thank them at the Emmys either. I am not surprised, if she divorced Tom Cruise, the Church of Scientology declared her a suppressive person and her children were turned against her.

On Thursday night at the Critics Choice Awards, Kidman finally seemed to rectify that situation with an oblique reference to Connor and Isabella, the Washington Post reported.

In her speech, she said “I want to thank all of my children, who show me so much love.”
