Hollywood North: Russell Crowe, Dakota Johnson join cast of Bad Times at the El Royale

They may be in for some “Bad Times” — but at least they’ll have a great cast.

Academy Award winner Russell Crowe and Fifty Shades star Dakota Johnson have both signed on to co-star with Oscar winner Jeff Bridges and Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, in Bad Times at the El Royale, a big budget thriller that is scheduled to start shooting in Metro Vancouver later this month.

Drew Goddard, whose credits include Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods, The Martian and Netflix’s Daredevil, penned the script and will helm the movie from director’s chair.

20th Century Fox has been cagey about releasing any plot details but we know it centres on a group of shady characters who converge at a dilapidated Lake Tahoe hotel in the 1960s.

According to the Agassiz-Harrison Observer, the Bad Times crew will be filming scenes under the production name Purple Harvest on Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz, Feb. 5 and 6.

Shooting is scheduled to start Jan. 29 and wrap up April 6, according to the Director’s Guild of Canada production list.

KATHERINE LANGFORD STARS IN EXPLOSIVE COMEDY

Brian Duffield, the screenwriter behind Insurgent and Netflix’s The Babysitter, will direct Aussie actress Katherine Langford in the dark comedy Spontaneous which begins shooting Jan. 29 in Vancouver.

Katherine Langford, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her breakout role in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, will play a high school senior whose classmates are spontaneously combusting.

The movie is based on Aaron Starmer’s explosive young adult novel of the same name.

WILLIAMS STRIVES FOR PERFECTION

Allison Williams, the female lead in Jordan Peele’s surprise 2017 blockbuster Get Out, will be in Vancouver next month to shoot The Perfection, the story of two cello prodigies and a sinister obsession.
