Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for Thursday, Jan. 11.
Corb Lund & Ian Tyson
Get your country on at the Vogue on Thursday night by spending an evening with B.C. country icon Ian Tyson and Alberta’s Corb Lund. It’s being billed as a night of “Cowboy Songs and Conversation.” If that’s your thing, I say you get on your horse and get tickets, and I mean that literally because, as I understand it, cowboys ride horses. Why they’re not called horseboys is beyond me.
Where: The Vogue, 918 Granville St., Vancouver
When: 8 p.m.
Cost: $42.50 and up
Treat yourself to a very affordable night of laughs at Jokes Please, the award-winning stand-up comedy night that happens every Thursday at Little Mountain Gallery. According to the event’s website, this week’s theme is fitness, which is ideal, since comedians are generally very fit and healthy and have plenty of useful tips about keeping one’s body tight. (Actually, wait, scratch that. I’m thinking of fitness instructors. Comedians hate working out.)
Where: Little Mountain Gallery, 195 E. 26th, Vancouver
When: 9 p.m.
Social Dance Modern Jive Vancouver
When was the last time you went dancing? And I’m not talking about a night at the club. That’s going drinking. Go dancing for real on Thursday night at Social Dance Modern Jive Vancouver, “The best dance social mixer that you will attend.” All ages are welcome, you don’t have to bring a partner, and more importantly, you don’t even have to be good at dancing. They’ll teach you. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and at 7:45 you get a partner dance lesson, followed by freestyle dancing until 9 p.m., at which point there’s another lesson and another round of freestyle dancing.
By the end of the night, you’ll be as good at partner dancing as Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.
Where:Cambrian Hall, 215 E. 17th, Vancouver
When: 7:30 – 10:15 p.m.
