Peek inside the swanky IMAX theater at the Veranda in Concord

CONCORD — At the Veranda LUXE Cinema movies theater, film buffs can watch “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on an 80-foot-wide, four-story IMAX screen.

Scheduled to open Dec. 14, the Concord cineplex is the second IMAX theater in Contra Costa County, joining AMC Brentwood 14.

The movie theater at the new Veranda shopping center features 10 screens, electric recliners, in-theater dining, a full bar, cocktail lounge and outdoor dining patio.

The 375,000-square-foot shopping center opened in October on the former Chevron campus on Diamond Boulevard.

Tenants include 365 by Whole Foods Market, the first Bay Area location of the upscale grocer’s affordable stores; Cost Plus World Market; TJ Maxx; Toys ‘R Us/Babies ‘R Us; several trendy eateries serving burgers, sushi and seafood; a fitness center and a waxing salon.
