Franco portrays actor-director Tommy Wiseau in the film about the making of the film “The Room,” which became an instant cult classic in 2003 for its awfulness. Franco’s film, for which he doubled as the director, is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It is set for a December release.
The trailer features Franco speaking in Wiseau’s accent, and highlights some of Wiseau’s eccentric filmmaking and acting decisions. The movie is based on the book by Greg Sestero, the Alamo-raised actor and 1996 graduate of Monte Vista High School who co-starred in “The Room.”
Dave Franco, James’ younger brother, plays Sestero in “The Disaster Artist,” whose cast also includes Seth Rogan, Alison Brie, Zoey Deutch, Sharon Stone, Bryan Cranston, Kristin Bell, Zac Efron and Melanie Griffith.
