Ant McPartlin Reveals Extent Of Drug Issues After Completing Rehab Stint

Ant McPartlin has opened up about his drug issues, after completing a stint in rehab to combat his prescription drug addiction.

The TV presenter revealed that he was seeking treatment back in June, when his fans, celebrity pals and ITV all gave him their full support.

Now, speaking to the Sun on Sunday, Ant has revealed the extent of his issues for the first time.

He told the paper: “I was at the point where anything — prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs — I would take.

“And take them with alcohol, which is ridiculous. The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’. ”

Ant also explained how his initial problems developed after a knee problem that eventually required surgery.

“Initially I was prescribed co-codamol, codeine, the normal stuff you would get, and then a lot of opium-based stuff,” he said. “As a general rule, anything that is opium-based can be addictive.

“I would go for it first because it would make the pain disappear and kind of numb it.

“But then we found my pain had been caused by a hole in my knee bone — it was shot.

“I was moved on to tramadol, which is where the real problems started.”

Ant’s wife Lisa and TV partner Dec have both supported him throughout the whole thing and Lisa spoke out shortly after her husband initially sought treatment.

Posting on Twitter in the wake of the news, Lisa wrote that she’d been “completely overwhelmed” by the support the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ host had already received from fans and the public.

She said: “[Your love and support] means so much. I’m relieved he’s receiving the help he needs, we just need him better.”

Meanwhile, Dec wrote: “Thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes for the big fella. He will be touched. Your support is, as ever, much appreciated.”
