You would think that R. Kelly isn’t the kind of guy many people would want to spend much time around, as a collaborator, neighbor or as the mentor of an underage daughter.

And yet, the singer has enjoyed a charmed life and career with lots of people still flocking to be in his orbit — despite multiple allegations over the years of sexually abusing or otherwise mistreating teenage girls and young women, according to a new report by Buzzfeed News.
He’s sold nearly 60 million albums during his 25-year career and remains in high demand for concerts, endorsements, television and radio appearances, and glossy magazine profiles, Buzzfeed said. Major stars also want to work with him, including Lady Gaga who recorded the duet “Do What U Want” with him in 2013 and Jimmy Fallon who hosted him on The Tonight Show in December. The 50-year-old star currently headlines a digital campaign for designer Alexander Wang’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection.
Meanwhile, Buzzfeed News says that a group of parents entrusted their barely legal daughters to Kelly’s mentorship, trusting either that he genuinely wanted to help advance the girls’ music careers or believing that they could protect them.
But now those parents have spoken out to Buzzfeed, accusing Kelly of new misconduct allegations that involve him keeping their daughters in a sex-abused, abusive “cult.”
According to these parents, Kelly has the girls holed up in homes he has in Chicago and suburban Atlanta. The girls have reached the age of consent, so there doesn’t appear to be much the parents can do. The Buzzfeed story says the R&B star utterly controls every aspect of the young women’s daily lives.
